Midwest Marbling has done a great job of getting started as the first Art Center focused on Marbling in the U.S. Now we need more volunteers to support our activities!

Think about what you would like to learn about and what is important to you. For the most part you can expect to spend 3-6 hours a month. Some opportunities involve working alone and some are group activities where people are likely to meet via Zoom.

Photographers

  • Cell phone photos are fine – the main task is coming to events and snapping candid shots mostly for the website and social networking
  • We will have one short meeting probably via Zoom for me to talk about what to aim at in terms of the website – otherwise this can be done by individuals working alone

Education Committee

This group is working to implement workshops to meet the needs of the membership as expressed in a Survey we did in October 2025.

  • Right now the work of the committee is basically calling various workshop presenters and getting descriptions and pictures to advertise the workshops (see the website for examples)
  • Going forward the committee will be thinking about how to solicit non-renters as instructors, doing additional surveys, and reviewing the budget with the
    MM Chair and Treasurer.

Exhibitions Committee

  • With the guidance of Mark Odegard, this group is deciding where to propose shows, contacting the sites, and putting together proposals (each site has different requirements
  • When we have new shows scheduled, the committee will shift to designing the artist “calls” (i.e., the main way organizers deal with the artists – gathering info about the pieces and telling the artists about important dates, insurance concerns, etc.) – we can use past MM calls as a starting point
  • This group (perhaps with the help of others) will also put up the shows and learn how to “hang a show”

Web Monitors

  • We have a very complicated website with a calendar and news items as the primary way we are communicating to the general public as well as pages to
    describe our various activities.
  • The Chair is currently doing most of the adjustments to the writing on the website but there is a need for someone who will monitor the website and
alert the Chair to changes that need to be made.
  • This is another job that can be done by an individual and communicating can be via email.

Demo Team

Last year the organization decided demonstrations (i.e. actually showing people how marbling is done) were the most effective way to find new members. The vast majority of people who learn to marble do it after they have seen someone else marble. This group will be led by Teresa Grant and she is looking for people who want to have some fun and enjoy interacting with others.

  • There will be training for the demonstrators both in what to demo and in what kinds of questions and situations they may face when demo-ing
  • Demos and the training will be at the Q.arma building. As requests are made, we will go out to various sites to demo
  • Demos are done with a Demo leader and an assistant so you won’t be alone when presenting
  • Supplies, postcards for people interested in MM, and a sign up sheet with info about Intro to Marbling Workshops will be provided by MM

Social Networking “Team”

  • Instagram is the primary way we are social networking so a knowledge of
that platform or a willingness to learn about it is necessary
  • You will get access to the pictures from our photographers and will need to put them up and give the the tags that will encourage people seeing them
  • This is something that can be done by an individual or group of individuals working “alone”

Election Process Review Committee

  • We have a process for electing officers every 3 years in the Bylaws but at our last meeting we decided it was too cumbersome and should be reconsidered – Parry will head that up and needs at least one more person
  • This is a short term need and should only take a couple of meetings
